Expressive Clay - A 6-Week Handbuilding Series & Group Exhibit

from $275.00

Expressive Clay is intended to be a space to build on your existing handbuilding techniques and bring your own expressive, conceptual sculpture(s) to life in a small, supportive group environment. Pieces made in class will be part of a group exhibit at Mercury Project in December.

  • This class will not launch you into a career as a fine artist (if there is a class for that, don’t trust it - hehe). Instead this class will provide you a supportive space to access your innate, human ability to express yourself creatively (with clay) and allow you to share and celebrate your creativity with your community. (You do not have to identify as an artist to register. Being simply you is enough).

  • Class meets on Sundays from 2-5pm (10/12, 10/19, 10/26, 11/2, 11/9, 11/23).

  • This is an intermediate level clay class - handbuilding experience is required. You don’t have to know everything (no one does) but you do have to be proficient in: building hollow forms, pinching and coiling techniques, the overall clay process. (If you have questions regarding required experience please email me at howdy@meechiceramics.com).

  • Though I will be guiding your technique for the duration of the series, as a participant you will be bringing your own concepts to life.

  • Handbuilding lends itself to a slower pace, allowing more time to conceptualize and inevitably troubleshoot throughout the process. Class is best for students who enjoy the journey as much (or more) as they do the final result.

  • Classes are held outside a traditional ceramic studio space where equipment will be limited (i.e.: no slab roller, no extruder). Alternative processes and tools will be explored.

  • The series is capped at 6 participants to keep learning potential high.

  • Materials will be discussed and participants will then be responsible for purchasing their own approved materials.

  • This class is being offered at a sliding scale approach with three different pricing tiers. Please choose whichever tier you are able to pay. I understand that we all feel the dollar a little differently.

Class is for those 18 years of age and up.

Handbuilding classes are located at Mercury Project - 538 Roosevelt Ave, SATX, 78210. Glazing class is located at 1906 S. Flores Ave, SATX, 78204.

Purchase is non-refundable and non-transferrable.
